The ANPC will hold the 14th Australasian Plant Conservation Conference (APCC14) in Toowoomba, Queensland, from 13-17 October 2024 at the Oaks Toowoomba Hotel 25 Annand St, Toowoomba QLD 4350
NB. Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport has direct services to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Townsville and regional Queensland
Acknowledgement of Country
The APCC14 organising committee acknowledges the traditional custodians of the places where the Conference will be held and recognises and respects that these places are and have been places of knowledge exchange, sharing, wisdom, and philosophy for generations. We also acknowledge the cultural diversity of all First Nations peoples along with their caring for country and connections to plants over millennia, as well as the important contributions they continue to make to Australian society. We pay our deepest respect to all Elders past and present.
Travel and accommodation
Please read our phytosanitation guidelines here.
Please give them careful thought before and after you travel. The ANPC is a strong advocate for strong national and domestic plant biosecurity. We work to prevent the spread and exchange between locations of all plant diseases and pests. This 2024 conference will be held on the edge of the east Australian Myrtle Rust zone. You could easily pick up spores on your clothing or gear, even in Toowoomba. On field trips, we will also be visiting sites sensitive to species of Phytophthora root diseases, and places potentially containing these pathogens, and we must avoid spreading lineages of this and other soil-borne diseases. We seek your cooperation and commitment in ARRIVING CLEAN and LEAVING CLEAN.
Information on getting to Toowoomba and where to stay can be found here.
Toowoomba is just a 90 minute drive from Brisbane and only 2 hours 10 minutes from the Gold Coast.
Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport has direct services to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Townsville and regional Queensland with Qantas and Regional Express. Frequent buses link from Brisbane Airport to Toowoomba.

Things to see and do in Toowoomba. There are many Parks and Gardens and bushwalks to explore! Here are a few:
- Toowoomba Botanic Gardens
- Gumbi Gumbi Gardens, University of Southern Queensland
- Peacehaven Botanic Park, Highfields
- Boyce Gardens
- Highfield Falls Bushland
- Redwood Park
The conference theme recognises how the many Little Things that we do – in science, land management, and community-based conservation – can grow into the Big Things that can save our biodiversity heritage.
APCC14 will bring together, from across Australasia, Traditional Owners, plant conservation scientists, researchers, practitioners and land managers, government agency staff, community groups, students and volunteers, to discuss recent advances and issues in plant conservation, and how best to manage the key threats. We will explore new insights into the recovery of native plants after extreme disturbances such as fire and cyclones, the conservation of threatened species and communities, and emerging new threats from plant diseases in the wild, including Myrtle Rust.
A key part of APCC14 will be building and strengthening plant conservation networks. In particular, it will raise the profile of plant conservation in Queensland, including through the Queensland Threatened Plant Network (QTPN) which is a new initiative coordinated through a partnership between the ANPC and the Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation. The QTPN seeks to support and facilitate groups and new partnerships for the conservation of native flora and threatened plant recovery across the State.
